Occasionally Darfur makes the news, but by and large, the world community remains uncaring or unwilling to intervene. The power and means to stop this injustice is available: what is lacking are courage, will, and love.
Meanwhile, here in America, we Christians argue over a dozen issues that pale in comparison to the loss of so many lives. This is occurring “on our watch,” during our one and only lifespan on earth. We lived through Rwanda eleven years ago, and we seem to be coasting through this genocide as well. Without love, we know, we are nothing. Without the good fruit of justice and compassion, our message cannot be believed and (according to Jesus) should not be believed. Will we prove ourselves people of love, truly followers of Jesus Christ? Or will we prove ourselves religious people who like to sing and study the Bible and “take stands” on various moral issues, but consider the death of our global neighbors something other than a moral issue, an optional concern for a few?
